How to install os

If you still think that installing an operating system is a job for computer wizards, then you are seriously mistaken.

Using this guide, you can install operating system even if you are a novice PC user. So let’s go start installation.

Preparing for installation

1. Open “My Computer” and see in which section you currently have the system installed.

2. Remember its size and name so that you can find the correct volume during installation. Collect all the necessary drivers for your computer or laptop on a USB flash drive or other disk in advance. If there is no CD with drivers, they can be downloaded from the official website of the equipment manufacturer. If you do not do this, then you risk remaining without the Internet after installing a new system.

3. Which bit depth of windows  to choose – x64 or x86 ? Click  ” Control Panel -> System and Security -> System “

If your computer or laptop has more than 3 gigabytes of RAM, it is definitely worth installing the 64-bit version. In general, we recommend installing x86 only on weak or very outdated hardware in the yard of the 21st century, after all :). Please note that the drivers for the same device are different in them, in fact they are two different systems!

5. Prepare a bootable USB flash drive with Windows. In this tutorial, we will install the system from a flash drive, because it is faster and easier. A similar instruction on how to create it can be found here.
6. Since during installation we will format the disk with the installed system, all important files that are stored on it must first be copied to removable media or to another partition on the hard disk. Remember that the files located on the desktop are also stored on the system disk. If you need them, be sure to transfer them to another place. When formatting, all previously installed programs will be removed, but this does not mean that they also need to be copied to flash drives and disks. Programs are easier to reinstall, so only take care of saving your personal files – photos, documents, music, etc.
For a clean installation of Windows, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with its system requirements:
Booting from a USB stick

Create a bootable USB drive according to these instructionsNext, insert it into the USB port and change the boot priority in the motherboard BIOS so that this flash drive is loaded first.  If you have difficulties at this step, here is a detailed instruction on how to boot from a USB flash drive .   If you did everything correctly, changing the boot priority, then after exiting the BIOS and restarting the computer, the message “Press any key” will appear on the screen. Complete this requirement – press any key to start booting from the installation media.

You need to press the key only ONCE and only at this stage of the installation.

After pressing any key, a message will appear stating that Windows is loading files.

System installation

So, let’s proceed directly to the installation of Windows. Wait until their extraction is complete, after which the start window of the installer will appear on the screen. Congratulations, the hardest part is over!

1. Select your language, time format and layout. Click Next.

2. Click on the big “Install” button to launch the installation wizard.

3. Select the version and bitness of the operating system.

  1. Attention!
Note: select the version of Windows from which you have an activation key (you will enter it at the final stage of installation). If there is no key, read the instructions on how to activate the system after installation.

  2. 4. Read the license terms and accept them.

  3. 5. Select the full installation (update is not suitable for us).

  4. 6. After starting the full installation, the partition selection screen appears.

  5. Attention!
Here you need to be extremely careful, since the correctness of the system installation largely depends on this stage.

  6. The installer window will contain several sections: The first one is usually backed up by the system (it stores the recovery files). It weighs 100 MB and you don’t need to touch it. The second is the system one – that is, it stores Windows files. A new system is being installed on it. The third section is file. User data is stored here, which remains intact even after reinstalling Windows. There may be other options: for example, there is no system-reserved partition or no volume with user files. In any case, you need the section on which the previous system already stood – not in vain, when preparing for installation, we advised you to look and remember its size.

  7. If, for some reason, you still have one partition, the volume of which exceeds 250 GB, then it is better to immediately divide the disk into two volumes: one for Windows and programs (approximately 50-100 GB), the second for personal files. To do this, using the “Disk Setup” tool, delete the existing partition and create first the first volume (“Create” – specify the volume – “Apply”), and then the second.

The created volumes should be named “Section 1”, “Section 2”. There should be no unallocated space – the system simply won’t see it.

So, you have at least two partitions, one of which is dedicated to operating system files. If it has not just been created, but has already been before, then it must be formatted by deleting all data. Click on the “Disk Setup” link , select the partition and click “Format”. When formatting, all files from the system partition will be deleted (that is, the values in the “Full size” and “Free” columns will become the same). This is exactly what we wanted. To start a clean installation, click “Next” , checking again that the partition that you have allocated for the system is selected.

  8. 7. We wait. After selecting the partition and starting the installation, a window will appear on the screen in which you can see the process of unpacking Windows  files and writing them to the hard drive. While you can rest, you won’t have to do anything for 15-25 minutes. During this installation time, the computer will restart several times. After the installation is complete, you need to specify some parameters of the system.

  9. 8. Enter computer name and username.

  10. 9. You can optionally set an administrator password, but this is optional. If you set a password, you will need to enter it every time you start your computer or laptop.
  11. We will leave the field blank for now, you can “password” the account later.

  12. 10. Enter the activation key, if you have one. If there is no key, uncheck the “Automatically activate” checkbox and skip the step by clicking “Next”.

  13. 11. Specify Windows settings – it is better to choose the recommended settings, when you get to know the new system better, configure it in your own way.

  14. After selecting all the necessary parameters, the Windows 7 desktop will appear on the screen. You can start your acquaintance with the system, but first reboot the computer and enter the BIOS again – here you need to change the boot priority back, putting the hard drive in the first place.

  15. 12. Activate the system.

  16. 13. Turn on automatic system updates and wait for the process to finish. Most drivers will be installed with security updates. If there is no Internet, you can use the DriverPack Solution driver installation program.

  17. The instruction turned out to be quite impressive in volume, but now you know the main nuances when installing Windows 7 and can easily do it yourself. Carefully follow the above recommendations and the installation will definitely be successful.
